How our website works

What is an XML sitemap?

A sitemap.xml file is a file that lists every page of a website. It is always written in XML (eXtensible Markup Language) and follows a precise structure defined by web standards. The simplest approach is to keep the standard file name « sitemap.xml », but the site owner may choose a different name — in that case the new name has to be declared in the robots.txt file. Once your sitemap.xml has been created, remember to submit it to the various webmaster platforms (Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, and so on).

Why is a sitemap file important?

A sitemap file lets search engines discover the full list of pages on a website much faster — especially the pages you have just added. That is why you should always keep an up-to-date sitemap file on your website. An up-to-date sitemap improves how well your site is crawled and indexed, which helps your search engine rankings.

How does sitemapauto.com work?

sitemapauto.com is designed to crawl every page of a website starting from your home page address. It can crawl up to 5,000 pages. First, each page is checked to make sure it does not return a 404 error; if broken pages are found, they are listed for you along with the pages that link to them. Then sitemapauto.com generates an XML file that you can download by clicking a button at the end of the process. All that is left to do is upload the file to your website and submit it to the usual webmaster platforms. Generating your sitemap automatically saves you a lot of time.

Validate your whole site, not one page at a time

W3cvalidator.com crawls your website and checks your pages against W3C standards automatically, up to 1,500 pages in a single run. Far faster than validating each page by hand, and a good way to catch the markup errors that hurt accessibility.
